Frequently Asked Questions

  • When can I claim compensation?
    Copied
You can claim compensation in case of cancellation or a long delay of a flight that departs from or lands at an airport in the territory of the European Union, if the following conditions are met:

    - The delay is over three hours upon landing
    - The cancellation was not communicated to you at all (you learn about it at the airport) or was communicated to you less than 14 days before the flight date.

In these cases the carrier can be released from liability if the cause of the problem is an extraordinary circumstance - most often meteorological complications (fogs, thunderstorms, heavy snowfall, hurricane winds), but also other natural disasters such as volcanoes and fires that cause airport closures.
  • Can I claim compensation for a missed connection?
    Copied
For trips with several connecting flights it is important to know that they are only considered as one trip if they are on a single booking. Low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, EasyJet, etc. do not issue linked reservations and each leg is considered a separate journey. In these cases, compensation can only be claimed if a specific flight is cancelled or delayed for more than three hours.

On connecting flights in one booking, even a delay of less than three hours is possible to cause you miss your connection to the final destination. In these cases, the carrier is obliged to reroute you, and if you reach your final destination with a delay of more than three hours you can claim compensation the amount of which is determined by the distance between the starting and final destinations.
  • I was denied boarding, am I entitled to compensation?
    Copied
You can also claim compensation in case of denied boarding due to more tickets being sold than there are seats (overbooking), in which case airport officials shall issue a corresponding confirmation, which you should keep in order to claim compensation.

You cannot claim compensation if you are not admitted to the airplane due to failure to appear at the boarding gate at least 45 minutes before the flight's departure time, regardless of how slow the airport checks were. Carriers are not responsible for poor airport organization and in these cases, you cannot make any claims against the airline.
  • Can I claim expenses arising out of a flight disruption?
    Copied
In the case of a delay of more than two hours or a cancellation, the carrier shall provide you care: food and drinks, and if it is necessary to wait until the next day, an overnight stay in a hotel and transport between it and the airport. Unfortunately, carriers often fail to arrange care and in such cases you shall keep all receipts and invoices for expenses incurred for food and refreshments (but not alcohol), hotel and bus or taxi to it, as you may be able to claim them back. You must provide receipts, it is not possible to claim expenses based on credit card statements or similar.

Unfortunately, you cannot claim deferred benefits from a flight disruption, such as lost hotel reservations, museums, concerts, rental cars, and the like.
  • How much is the compensation and what is the fee for pursuing the claim?
    Copied
The amount of compensation is fixed in Regulation 261/2004 and depends on the distance between the starting point and the final destination, measured by the great circle method (you can check it on this site: http://www.gcmap.com/). Our fee is payable only if the claim is successful and is in the amount of 25% of the amount received:

    - for short flights up to 1500 km. (e.g. from Rome to Berlin) the compensation is in the amount of 250 EUR. In this case, our remuneration is 62.50 EUR and you will receive 187,50 EUR.
    - for flights of medium distances between 1501 and 3500 km. (for example between Athens and Paris) the compensation is in the amount of 400 EUR. In this case, our remuneration is 100 EUR BGN and you will receive 300 EUR;
    - for long-haul flights over 3,501 km. (e.g. overseas flights) the compensation is in the amount of 600 EUR. In this case, our remuneration is 150 EUR and you will receive 450 EUR
